The Everglades: River of Grass by Marjory Stoneman Douglas, an appropriate book to read while camping near Estero Bay. The book is all about Florida and nature; one gets everything from the geological formations and history to the flora and fauna.
Lake Okeechobee and the Caloosahatchee River, the river where both Thomas Edison and his neighbor, Henry Ford, had winter homes, are also key pieces of the southern Florida landscape.
Of course, the Everglades "River" is the star of the show. "The grass crowds all across the visible width and rondure of the earth like close-fitting fur," said Mrs. Douglas.
