Courting Favour

Courting Favour by Nigel Tranter, featured John Dunbar Earl of Moray, and his family, including Marjory, a Scottish princess, and his older brother, George Dunbar.

The Magna Charta Barons and Their American Descendants...:

John Dunbar may be an ancestor through his daughter, Mabilla, wife of Robert, Earl of Sutherland, but the information is way too sketchy to confirm or debunk a connection.

"Marjory and John saw quite a lot of the Sutherland brothers, who could sail down from Dunrobin in half a day.  They were not surprised when, in late July, Robert formally asked for the had of Mabella in marriage, and were happy to grant it, their daughter nowise the reluctant party.  The wedding would be celebrated at the commencement of September, on the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, this also to coincide with the harvest festival."

"But before that looked-forward-to occasion, a summons arrived from [the Duke of] Albany for John to go south [to England]."

"This would inevitably occupy some considerable time; so rather than miss his daughter's nuptials, that event was brought forward so that John could give her away, neither she nor the groom making any complaint as to that." [Courting Favour]
